Really, I did!
See, for days, weeks, maybe months (or at least it feels like it) we saw new cracks on the pavement, heard talks of water shortage, tasted mud in our tap, felt brittle branches under our feet, walked on dry ground, and watched shriveled leaves prematurely fall.
I took my daughter’s hand the other day…and we prayed for rain to quench the parched earth (…and while You are at it God, would you please open Your well and pour water to ease this spiritual drought that we see).
Last Saturday, John’s first soccer game was cut short by this strong downpour (it was a tie of 4-4 between the Green Dragons and their opponent).
First, the rolling clouds, then the remarkable gusts of wind…and finally the longed-for rain coming down in unusually generous drops …Kez and I looked at each other…Our prayer’s been answered.
So, this morning as I drove up Berry’s Chapel Road, the rain poured softly as the clouds rolled about me, embracing the once parched earth, giving it life…And in me peace that all is well for God reigns and remains the same. That’s how I saw heaven touch the earth.
“ Rain down, you heavens, from above,
And let the skies pour down righteousness;
Let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation,
And let righteousness spring up together.
I, the LORD, have created it.” (Isaiah 45:8)
“ For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11)
